How much does a Munich trip cost?
Munich is one of Germany's most expensive cities but still around 15–20% cheaper than Paris or London. Budget travelers sharing a hostel dorm and eating lunch specials (Mittagstisch, typically 8–14 €) can get by on around 60–85 € per person per day. Mid-range travelers — 3-star hotel, sit-down restaurants, a couple of paid attractions — should budget 130–200 € per person per day.
Key costs to plan for: the Deutsches Museum is 14 € per adult; BMW Welt is free but the BMW Museum is 10 €; a Hofbräuhaus Masskrug (1-litre beer) costs around 14–15 €; a U-Bahn/S-Bahn day ticket is around 9 €; the Englischer Garten is free. Neuschwanstein entry is 15 € plus bus from Füssen.
Day trips add cost: Neuschwanstein (train to Füssen ~30 € return, bus ~3 €, castle entry 15 €); Berchtesgaden by train is around 50–60 € return; an organised full-day castle tour runs 60–100 €; renting a car for the Alps is around 40–60 €/day.
